Koreans make up 0.6% of the US population. This functional art object represents the three largest racial demographics in America, while making the rest of the minority populations invisible. There is a shelf which holds a half eaten twinkie to highlight the Korean-American population.
Koreans like myself who were born here in America have been called bananas, or twinkies, because we are “yellow on the outside, and white on the inside”. America as an art object is both a visual representation of who we are, and a playful way to illuminate the invisible others.
